(13 days to BRR): Chang to 8 mile downhill run on Saturday – NOW AT FOSTER’S @7:15AM   Leave a comment

David actually mapped my route for Saturday and discovered my 8 mile route is actually 10.15. Then Sharon pointed out that a section of Main St. in Carrboro is going to be closed on Saturday. So we are moving the start to Foster’s anc cutting out 1.85 miles for what David calls "8.4 miles of downhill fun"!

We will start going up MLK, but remember this run is to practice downhill running form (shorter strides, quicker cadence, slower pace and, above all, lighter feet). So take it easy on the uphills…

(14 days to BRR): campus run thursday, 8 miler Sat & Psych Up Potluck on Sunday   Leave a comment

2 weeks to departure!!!! Time to get packing…

Thursday: Campus run from FF @ 6:30

Saturday: 8 miler @ 7:15

Let’s eat crepes and do some downhill running on Saturday! There are five decent downhills on this route, so let’s practice good downhill running form, focusing on shortening our stride and slowing down. All of our hill work so far has focused on building up strength to go up hills, but pacing ourselves on the down sides is just as important. [Due to some pesky laws of physics, downhills means uphills. Take them slow and easy! They are not the point of this run.]

We will meet at the start of the bike path at 7:15 (with NoBo at FF, I suggest parking in one of the Roberson lots). The route takes us down the bike path and Cameron, down Columbia to South Rd. to Ridge and then DOWN Laurel Hill, past St. Thomas Moore, back up Raleigh/South Rd. to Country Club, around Gimghoul and down the rest of Country Club to Boundary, then up to Franklin, down Franklin to Plant and onto Bolin Creek, then up MLK and down Franklin/Main back to the start (or directly onto Johnny’s).

Sunday: 4-7 – BRR Psych Up Party! It’s time to celebrate all the hard work behind us and get psyched for the great mountain adventure ahead of us! – More details to follow…

IT’S TAPER TIME!! Yay. We waded through our last tough weekend. Admittedly, our ‘hard third run’ was rained out for a few of us. 😦 But I think was are in great shape for BRR this year. So a big congratulations to everyone for getting over the training hump. Now we just need to do a little maintenance and a whole lot of injury prevention over the next several weeks…

URGENT: BRR t-shirts! Wiki has spearheaded our very own tee party this past week. If she has emailed you seeking shirt sizes, please get that info to her ASAP this AM for ordering purposes!!!!

When are the Soles caravaning to Raleigh to see Natalie in Brigadoon? The show runs September 6 – 23, 2012. dd

Shows are 7:30 Thu-Sat, 2pm on Sundays. the Thursday night shows are $10 and the weekend shows are $20, but, if we can get ten soles together, we can get a $12 group rate. purchase tickets for Brigadoon here: www.burningcoal.org, but, if we can get a groupd together, bank of yoda can get the tickets.

Who’s in? Which weekend and which night?

The show is at Burning Coal Theatre Company (224 Polk Street, Raleigh NC 27604). This seems to be in downtown Raleigh.

The classic American musical by Lerner & Lowe, directed by Emily Ranii. With choreography by Robin Harris and music direction by Julie Oliver. Brigadoon tells the story of two Wall Street men who journey on a hunting trip to Scotland. While deep in the misty woods, they discover a small town that isn’t on any map. Once inside, they discover something rarer still.

Estimated run time: 2 hours.

“A stranger could stay if he loved someone here… not Brigadoon itself, mind, but someone in Brigadoon… enough to be willing to give up everything to stay near that person… which is only right because after all, lad… if you love someone deeply enough, anything is possible.”

Last tough training week o’ the season. We have a stadium workout, easy thursday run and a 20 mile weekend lined up. But then it is TAPER time! Who’s gettin’ excited for BRR????

This weekend, we need to do 20 over 3 runs. The BRRain Trust came up with this plan: 9mi Tobacco Trail Sat AM, then Sat pm: 5 mi Carrboro starting at FF and finally Sun am 6mi Fosters loop. Mutinies are welcome. Is ATT too far away or a good change of scenery? Have we overdone Foster’s? Feedback, please!!!
