Running out of March & Construction updates   Leave a comment

With UNC, NC State and my alma mater out of March Madness now, we can lace up to cure the blues (or red or crimsons as the case may be). I can’t make either Tuesday or Thursday night, so who’s up for organizing the runs this week?

Mary passed along a construction update (see below). Looks like Culbreth is getting tunneled, Smith Level and Columbia are getting sidewalked and Cameron torn up. Hoepfully all this work won’t mess with our routes too much this summer!

Congrats again to Bea, Deb, Julie, Mary and Kelly for knocking out the San Lee Half. Let’s wish Sole Sister a safe and fun trip to Italy. And I think I missed a ballistic birthday last week.

Three weeks until MST! So next weekend should be the last long training run. So don’t forget to lace up!

Tuesday: ?

Thursday: 6:30 Bolin Creek

Saturday: ?
Sunday: Lake Loop at Unity (part at CHHS) – four milers @ 8; 8 milers @ 9 – meet on pipeline.

Who’s in for what?

Weekend Running Plans 3/15   Leave a comment

Let me reiterate the good wishes for or Sanford bound Soles! That included our half marathon virgin, Endurtle, who will be scaring the bears away!

Tomorrow, I will be logging some miles on Laurel Hill with FF. All Soles are, of course, welcome.

Sunday, anyone up for a trail run? I would suggest 9:30 at Johnston Mill, but mutinies are welcome. Who’s in?

Spring Running this week   Leave a comment

A quiet weekend for the Soles, but a gorgeous one for running.

We have 3 more weekends til MST and 6 more til the Tar Heel 10!

Much (well over half) of Briar Chapel is blocked off by construction tape. This includes the Woods Charter loop (even the long bridge is closed) and the section from the empty road to the road in from CITP (Chapel in the Pines). Kelly has worked out some convolutions to get some miles out of Briar Chapel, but it makes sense (to me) to rotate in some other trails for the time being. Supposedly, the trails (that remain) will reopen in April some time (yeah, right!).

We have some decent options left to us for our weekend runs: Johnston Mill (good for a 5 mile loop or more with repeats), Carolina North (Lake Loop or Burn trails offer 4-8 mile loops with lots of switchback), Eno River (technical, hilly and a hike from CHC), Unstead (nice loops, but a trip down 40), Duke Forest (hilly, gravelly 4 mile loop) and New Hope (pretty, technical and out at Jordan Leke).

Mutinies welcome!

Tuesday: 6:15 @ ??? FF or SV?

Thursday: 6:00 @ Community Center. Back on the Bolin Creek Trail with DST!!!!

Saturday: 9:15 @ ???

Sunday: 9:15 @ Duke Forest 4 mile loop (anyone want to go at 8:15 and do 8?)

Aloha Running!   Leave a comment

Yoda is back, so may the Humuhumunukunukupuaa be with you! I did lace up twice in paradise for a total of ten island miles.

Mountains-to-Sea Trail Run is coming fast (April 7th). So we have four weekends to kick it into gear!

Congrats to David’s sub-4 marathon as well ss to Roger and the Sully family for rocking the Little Rock half again! Well wished to a tenderized Domo, winner of this month’s Bloody Sole award, for a quick recovery.

Anyone running tomorrow?

Let’s plan a Thursday Eastwood Lake Loop @ 6:15.

For the weekend, I am thinking about a 9:45 Carolina North run on Saturday and a Sunday morning run at Briar Chapel.
